WHO WE ARE
About Us
The Walt McGill Foundation (WMF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing educational and economic opportunities for individuals and communities that have been historically underserved and marginalized. Walt McGill was more than just a union electrician; he was a pillar of his community. Known for his strong belief in giving back, Walt often said, "Not only have I worked in the neighborhood, but I’m from the neighborhood. Therefore, I have extra incentive to go out to the neighborhoods and recruit." These words reflected his deep commitment to his roots and his desire to uplift those around him.
In line with his passion for community service, Walt founded the Construction Apprentice Preparatory Program (CAPP). This innovative workforce development program focuses on test preparedness for union apprenticeship entrance exams. Through CAPP, Walt aimed to provide aspiring tradespeople with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the competitive field of construction.
Following Walt’s passing in 2019, the CAPP family sought to preserve his legacy by establishing the Walt McGill Foundation (WMF). This nonprofit public community foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and families in the community, staying true to Walt's philanthropic philosophy.
